The surface of the iPixel^RF comprises an array of pyramid shaped RF electrodes arranged in rows of six. Electromagnetic pulses are triggered as the RF electrodes approach within a few microns of the skin surface, causing a micro-plasma spark that ablates and heats the skin, and forming a neat and symmetrical ablation pattern.

Microseconds after the plasma spark, the pointed tips of the RF electrodes make contact with the skin at the point of ablation and cause mechanical damage.
