Hyperhidrosis

hyperhydrosis diagramHyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating, beyond what is physiologically necessary for thermoregulation. It is a disorder associated with the eccrine sweat glands.

Eccrine glands are located over the entire body surface. However, the density of their distribution varies, with the greatest concentration found in the axilla, palms, soles of the feet, and face. These glands are distributed throughout the skin in a common anatomic pattern and at a depth of 2-6 mm. They secrete a clear, odorless fluid consisting of ~99% water and ~1% sodium chloride and potassium.

Osmidrosis

Osmidrosis is a condition characterized by strong and unpleasant body odor. The odor occurs as bacteria residing on the skin breaks down the fluid released by the apocrine sweat glands.
Apocrine glands are located in areas of the body with a high concentration of hair follicles, such as the axilla, the perianal region, and the genital region. These glands are embedded within the
dermis-hypodermis interface at a depth of 6-8 mm and secrete a thick, milky, odorless fluid rich in proteins, ammonia, lipids and carbohydrates.

Dielectric Heating

Selective and Effective Heating

The Alma SweatX treatment solution is able to selectively deactivate the sweat-producing activity of the eccrine and apocrine glands using dielectric heating.

With this heating mechanism, high radiofrequency energy is transmitted directly to the tissue, causing rapid rotation of its water molecules. This rotation causes friction which generates powerful and effective heat. Because hyperactive sweat glands are saturated with water in comparison to the surrounding tissue containing lesser water content, greater friction and heat will be produced in the target area. In this way, dielectric heating achieves selective heating, treating only the sweat glands.
